Nicki Repenning is considered a true veteran in the flight simulation community. As the founder of Honeycomb Aeronautical, he was a key figure in the field of flight simulator hardware. After internal conflicts and a legal dispute, he separated from his former company. Now he’s starting anew with Meridian GMT.
At the FSWeekend in Lelystad, the Netherlands, he presented the first products of his new brand. The product line initially includes three control units for flight simulation: Sierra Plus Yoke, Tango Plus Throttle, and X-Ray Flight Sim Controller. The devices focus on modularity and interchangeability.
Modularity as a Core Concept
According to Repenning, the new products are intended to offer an alternative to existing solutions, which often require completely new purchases. Meridian GMT devices are upgradeable and repairable, allowing individual components to be swapped out without replacing the entire device.
Sierra Plus Yoke: Advanced Control Capabilities
The Sierra Plus Yoke system features an extended pitch axis and high-resolution Hall-effect sensors. It also features integrated haptic feedback that simulates stalls and bumps. A magnetic faceplate allows for the attachment of tablets or clipboards.
Tango Plus Throttle: Customizable Throttle Control
The Tango Plus Throttle features interchangeable throttle panels that can be swapped depending on the aircraft type. Additional features include specific thrust reversers and an LCD annunciator for flight status messages.
X-Ray Flight Sim Controller: Controller for Xbox and PC
For users with limited space, Meridian GMT offers the X-Ray Flight Sim Controller. This controller features interchangeable faceplates and supports various aircraft configurations. The controller was developed with support from Microsoft and DCS developers.
Market Launch and Future Plans
The X-Ray Flight Sim Controller will be the first product to be released. Sierra Plus Yoke and Tango Plus Throttle will follow, priced at €299 and €349, respectively. Working prototypes are scheduled to be unveiled at FSExpo at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, USA, in June. Additional products are also in development, and Nicki will reveal more details about them in the coming months.
